Hello! My name is Stacey. I’m a mixed media artist, born and raised in Southern Ontario, Canada. Like many people in the 90s and 00s, I chose a career in technology and later, general labor. Both careers were interesting and challenging, but I never stopped feeling an inner drive to make something new, to create something I’d never seen before.

One of my earliest memories is of seeing Italian masquerade masks and Mardi Gras masks hanging on the wall of my aunt’s home. I was absolutely fascinated by them. However, as beautiful as those designs were, I wanted to see something stranger, darker and just as beautiful.

My work is cobbled together from spares: extra plaster of Paris I had, soap molds, jewelry molds, old paints and Halloween masks. I think it was a set of 3. I kept working with them, changing them, making product after product. I didn’t know it at the time but I was building something distinct, something I had indeed, never seen before.

My work now is unrecognizable from where I started. At some point they stopped being experiments and developed a life of their own. They tell a story and represent an aspect of nature, the elements, our emotional world, our history, our battle scars and our recovery. Art is with us every step of the way.
