This piece was finished in May and titled in July, during the heatwave when the temperature shot up to 38°C and higher. I noticed that I’d stuck with a cool and pastel colour palette for quite some time, but decided that I had to honour the blazing heat of the summer with bold, fiery reds. I added neon acrylics into the mix and it gave her a fiery soul that glows like an ember when you look closely.
Iridescence and pastels perfectly reflect the awakening flora after a dark, cold winter. Early blooming flowers still covered in frost catch the light just right, causing glints and light bursts, like rainbow hues through crystal. After a harsh winter, the enthusiasm for spring goes deep. For the spring fey in you.
